Playing with World Settings

Friday, February 27th, 2009

worldsettings.blendThis is a fun little file for playing with the settings in the World buttons. It’s the outdoor lighting rig explained in Chapter 9, with a couple extra goodies. This scene has enabled Mist, Approximate Ambient Occlusion, and a sky matte painting borrowed from the Big Buck Bunny movie. And just for fun, I parented the camera to an Empty at the center of the scene and animated that Empty to spin 360 degrees in 100 frames. Press Alt+A to see what it does. If you watch this from the camera view (Numpad 0), you’ll see that this basically gives you a simple turntable effect.

Feel free to adjust the settings here and render out an animation for yourself.

Wheeee!

Fake Area Light with Dupliverted Buffered Spots

Friday, February 27th, 2009

fake_area-light.blendThis .blend file should match the example in the book that creates Figure 9-12. Basically, you’re using copied spot lights with buffered shadows to replicate the effect of an area light with having to suffer the expense of using raytraced shadows.

This should give you some nice, soft shadows.

3-point Lighting

3-point.blendThis is a fairly standard 3-point lighting rig. It’s pretty much what start with when I begin lighting my scenes. From here, I add or subtract light as necessary.
